Question for any Marines who may know. Couple days ago on a local Hooah friendly radio station a mother of a Marine reservist called in saying how her son, who has just returned from Iraq, had $1000.00 worth of equipment stolen out of his jeep 2 days before he shipped again to Okinawa. She was stating in the Marine RESERVES, the reservists have to purchase all their own uniforms (blues, A's, B's and BDU/Cammies)
On the Reserve/Guard side in the Army I never had to buy my own stuff unless I've wanted more than the original issue. Anybody know why the USMCR is having their guys buy their own equipment? Just curious.
Side note, the listeners called in over 2k in donations to get this Marine set up with stuff again.
Be safe brothers.

Reservists are at the mercy of the supply SNCO. If they get their stuff jacked from the car, they need a police report stating the car, house... was broken into and locked. If they have that, no problem. New gear. Without the report, much money.
Go with God, but make Him walk the point.
If you load a mudfoot down with a lot of gadgets he has to watch somebody a lot more simply equipped - say with a stone axe - will sneak up and bash his head in while he is trying to read a Vernier. - Robert Heinlein

I've never had a problem with regards to having my reserve unit replace my gear, with notable exception.
While in Iraq, I served with RCT-2, Task Force Tarawa. 1/2 had many of their packs/sleeping gear/etc shot because it was stashed on the outside of their Hogs (that's AAV's for our Army brethren), consequently many were shot to pieces as they moved through An Nasiriyah. The HQ Co. CO asked for donations of any sleep items (bags/poncho liners/ponchos/etc). We were told we would not be held responsible for the items. I donated a couple of items, you know, hooking a fellow Marine up who really needs it. Later on, I detached from RCT-2 and got back to my parent unit. I got to the reserve unit to fill out my missing gear statement and they tell me I have to have a letter from the RCT-2, HQ Co CO stating he said that we weren't responsible for donated items. So, for doing a good deed, I'm in a holding pattern and on the hook for the items unless I can find the CO. What can you do?
Truth be told, if you lose the gear, you pick up the tab. If you PROVE its not your fault, you don't pick up the tab. Active or reserves, its both the same.
