I always thought AIT was what all soldiers do after BASIC in the ARMY... Which pertained ONLY to INFANTRY training....
My father did it..uncle..ect..
Analogy in USMC would be SOI (school of infantry)...
Now I am really confused and need clarification....
I have a Guard recruter putting together a contract for 91W in a CA infantry unit... Now he says I go to 91W school after BASIC....Then I ask him what about AIT????? He says the 91W MOS school IS my AIT..
So I guess this is correct???? wouldn't AIT be a real infantry school after BASIC..since BASIC doesn't even come close to preparing anyone for infantry???? I will be assigned to an infantry guard unit as a 91W...wouldn't it make sense to have a infantry school after BASIC..
Could someone kindly explain...
Thanks
merrec
P.S. Yes I have to do ARMY boot due to my messed up discharge code and number of years out of service...Going to be a major inconvienience to say the least

AIT=Advanced Individual Training. To be assigned to an Infantry unit you do not get advanced Infantry training. Unless your a 11B or 11C. Your AIT will be your 91w course. Recruiter is correct.

AHHHHHHHH Haaaaaa !!!!
Now I realize.....
When my father went through ARMY in the early 60's he said it was called
"Advanced Infantry Training" which was 8 weeks of field training excercises and said they did the Escape and Evasion part at the end of the course..... I guess the times are a chang'en...
He was in back when Fort Dix and Fort Drum where huge bases...I guess before the budget cuts that closed these bases... Fort Drum may be the reason he doesn't care much for snow anymore
Regards and Thanks...

To us Army Grunts AIT does stand for Advanced Infantry Training. To the rest of the Army it stands for what I said previously. Your welcome Chris.

Infantry and the other combat-arms don't have AIT anymore, they have OSUT (One Station Unit Training) which is a combined Basic and AIT rolled into one course (and oriented toward that particlar speciality, ie. infantry, armor, etc). Infantry OSUT is at Benning, Armor is at Knox, etc. This began somewhere around 1980.

BA...
Recruiter says I "may" have a choice at MEPS and he says I would be very dissapointed if I went to "relax-son" Jackson....
He said I would feel more at home if I did BASIC at Benning....
How would you rank the "intensity" level at various ARMY BASIC training depots..??
Regards
Chris
