OK....
Suppose I join a Guard unit in a particular state...then after MOS school I decide to transfer to another state/ guard unit....
I hear it's a fairly easy process of interstate transfer paperwork..
But I am assuming that you may be creating problems with original unit and may be burning bridges in reality...While the paperwork may be trivial...what is the likelyhood of it not going through....?
Can someone elaborate a bit on this subject and provide a realistic view of the process and any aftermath they may inccur...
Regards
Chris

I've transferred from NG to Reserve from Reserve unit to Reserve unit and Reserve to active duty and had no problems. I simply asked for acceptance from the recieving unit and then a release from the losing unit with an explanation for wanting the transfer.

Thanks for the responses..
Here is the scenario...
I prepared my mind and body for SF for last 8 months and I am ready to rock-n-roll..I wanted to go in as 18D...Now I have to join the local guard unit because Utah SF guard unit couldn't get my paperwork done in time..I have 2 weeks left before I can not join at all...So I am forced to quickly scramble to join local unit and they don't even jump...Now I am pissed cause I don't go to jump school...BUT I do get 91W medic which is closest thing I can find to 18D training...So I figure I can later do an interstate transfer when the smoke clears to go SF as 18D....
Does this sound like a realistic plan???
Hey..I WILL get to my goal..regardless of the obstacles....
Regards
Chris

Merrec. When do you report for 91W training. Ft. Sam I assume. Good luck with the mountains of paperwork...

UPDATE:
I found another recruiter in another state, Southern CA, who will give me the 91W with jump school in NG infantry unit...
The school will be in San Antonio and it is the longer school with 53 weeks....How can I be sure I am getting the longer 91W course as opposed to the 3 month 91W course..??
The good news is that if I want to go SF afterwards..the 19th SFG is on same base...

OK...Thanks for info..
So My backround is BS Electrical Engineering..
Scored 96 overall on ASVAB..
So what is training difference between 91W and 19D.... Which one is more extensive training??
Does Guard have 19D???? I want to get the best and most extensive medical option possible...
I don't want a cheesy 3 month course...I am looking to take this further after training like PA or med school. From my engineering pre-reqs that are science related, I have "most" of the courses needed for pre-med already done...maybe need 3 additional courses to take at local university to finish pre-med level..
Is there a medic MOS that is equivalent to 18D medical training minus the SF...reason being, if I go SF later on...I would like to not have to re-school the medic stuff all over again..
I apreciate all input and help since this decision is being made within a week
Regards
Chris

OK...Thanks for the tip..I just looked up 19D and found out it's not medical related....
I just want to make sure I am getting the most schooling medical option....
Is there something better than 91W in the Guard for medical..

Chris
