RO,

I've got no reason to doubt you, but from the sound of this article, the woman in question delivered a healthy seven pound baby. That is vastly different from the conditions which you endured. Bearing in mind that "averages" can always be manipulated, the average woman gains 25-30 pounds during a pregnancy distributed as follows:

Approximate breakdown of a weight gain of 29 pounds
Blood 3 pounds
Breasts 2 pounds
Womb 2 pounds
Baby 7.5 pounds
Placenta 1.5 pounds
Amniotic fluid 2 pounds
Fat 7 pounds
Retained water 4 pounds

Besides weight gain, there are other common symptoms, http://theparentsite.com/pregnancy/symptoms.asp.

Again, some women display no symptoms while pregnant. Perhaps this Marine was in that group. Given my expereince as a husband and an officer who has commanded pregnant soldiers, I doubt it.

I gave this story to my wife, who's spent the last 18 years as RNC working NICU and L&D. "If she had a seven pound baby, she knew she was pregnant".

She also stated that she has seen cases like RO's. So we have confirmation that RO is not a liar.

You want your ass beat? []

I had what is referred to as HELLP Syndrome- hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets. To this day I still have partial liver and kidney failure and elevated blood pressure, along with a daily handful of meds. My daughter is healthy now even though she was so premature and small.

I agree that with a 7 lb baby, this woman had to have known. The only way she could not have is if she were a heavy set woman and the weight gain was undetectable. I also find it totally unacceptable for a pregnant woman to be on a ship in a war zone. Totally irresponsible on her part.

So, does the kid get a theater ribbon?

Until you've been a woman-a pregnant woman at that, I'd hold your tongues gentlemen. My daughter was born at 28 weeks after my not knowing I was pregnant until I went completely blind from the elevated blood pressure. I gained approximately 4 lbs until 2 days before she was delivered by emergency c-section. During those 2 days I gained between 15 and 20 lbs of water weight with a high bp of 260/180. She weighed in at 2 lbs 8 oz at 7.5 months gestation. Also, through every one of my pregnancies I had no morning sickness. I dare one of you to call me a liar.
