Yeah i am a recruiter for the active USAF, and this recruiter is totally blowing smoke up your ass.  As the post before stated that the officers in this field are rated which means time within a cockpit.....PJ/CCT have a more preforated route in the officer world, such as CRO/SFO. These guys are the officers that control the PJ/CCT units, but even though they go through the same training they will not always be doing the same type of jobs......these officers are not here to take over the job, but rather do that job that the enlisted members can't do such as deal with other officers in requiring proper equipment and ensuring their guys are able to go into any situation. If he wants to go TACP he will need to enlist as this, but the good news is at basic training TACP come out and recruit from within BMT. So he may still have a chance to get a TACP slot.....the reason this recruiter may be telling him this is because they may not have a TACP unit within their ANG. Good hunting....

Attention to detail, FNG ~  He said - His buddy who was interested in this was KIA over two years ago.

Here's some more attention to detail stuff:

1.  "preforated route" - What the effin' hell is that?!?!?!?

2.  There's no such thing as a SFO - It's STO - Special Tactics Officer.

Before you post anything else, you need to go here:

I think the preferated route is when you take the preferred route, and some staff guys shoots your ideas down, you get perforated, hence the preforated route.  It's an Air Staff thing.

Well there is good news for anyone who is trying to be an officer in the TACP field. The Air Force is moving towards making the ALO position a career field. The ALO career AFSC is 13LX approved. They Just started Beta testing officers with prior Tacp experience and ones with no experience and non rated. These officers are will go through a pipe line come Aug or Sept. of 2009. If you still wants to be a ALO you can be sure that you are not chasing a fantasy. Personal experience is that rather that asking a recruiter about a job you want to do first go online and do some research find people in the field or retired after doing the job and ask them about it first. Then if you talk to a recruiter you know when he or she is shooting smoke up you ass. best place to find info about this career is by going to this website: http://www.romad.com/ you can talk to the guy that runs it his name is Charlie Heidal. he was a TACP for a good 22 years and he can tell you everything you need to know just ask the right questions.

You talking about Tactial Air Control Parties (TICAP)? Forward Air Controllers.  I was a combat controller during my AF days and always had problems with the these guys.  They had about six weeks of training (including Jump School) and thought they were Rambo.  We had over 72 weeks of training and couldn't get their respect.  Probably because we didn't respect them.  They had a mission and they did it.  We were crossed trained to do their mission.

Im thinking of going TAC P. Im already enlisted in the 2A field but im getting sick of working with pansies and working on piece of shit f-16s that should have been sent to the boneyard 10 years ago. I enlisted for 3 things (education, a career so i can support my family, and finally to kill the sons of bitches who attacked us on 9/11). So far it looks like i have a shitty job but i can support my family if needed and i finally just started school after 3 years, now im ready to get back at those bastards. When i graduated from Basic almost 3 years ago i was in the best shape of my life, now i sit on my ass and do nothing but gain weight and im sick of waiting to do something, i wanna do it now not wait until im 30. I wanted to join the marines at first but when i told the recruiter i wanted to go to college he laughed at me....im kind of regreting it now. How do i transition to TAC P. I mean do i have to wait until my cross train gets approved next year or is it one of those its critacally manned type deals and i can test now and head to TAC P training in a few months?

Im also applying for a commisioning program at the moment so this is a deciding factor for me. If i dont get picked up by ROTC then im going TAC P until i get out and then ill be back as an officer. Thanks for whoever helps

Who gives a F%@$
