CW...
First of all..If I was recruiting for SF...I would have to weight the criminal or school stuff that much..There are plenty of college grads I graduated with who I would say have no common sense but there are plenty of bright ones as well...I would look at both recruits in terms of who will make it... I would run your a$$es into the ground all day long to see who quits and who is the "grinder".....make sure you do as your told and your not a knuckle-head (Shmuck)... Criminal backround is important if your representing the US in foreign soil...tendency of rape or tendency to steal(looting) can create a internation incident(disaster) the media will have a field day...and it will draw major attention to SF as screw-ups..one bad apple can mess everything up....
I would be cautious about thinking SF as being some kind of fun outdoor adventure of skydiving,SCUBA and mountaineering... It is a tough job and a hard life and it isn't all fun and games when your asked to clear minefields with minimal equipment...especially those Chinese ones made of plastic with those Motorola chips inside
Jumping in mil is no way as fun as in civilian world..The mil has a unique way of taking all the fun out of just about anything...and that includes jumping....When I hear of freak mil accidents durring jumps...I am usually to suspect the JM for screwing up after I hear the story..this stuff worries me and should not happen..
As for your Associates degree..forget it..you can't get far on that degree and it's looked down upon..sorry for being a jerk but someone has to say it...From what I can gather from you....It sounds like you would be better off going to pre-med 2 years, it's not that difficult, then doing one additional year to become a P.A. , this will allow you the $ and time to do all the cool stuff you want to do...as well as not being married to your job like a MD is....or you may decide to bite the bullet and do Med School.... PA's usually do about 80K starting and top off in the 120K to 140K normally... I believe there are programs in some branches that will pay for all this and send you to the ARMY med school in TX....Looks like you need to research this...ALso if you don't make the current deadline you can then become a PA on your own then you can then enter ARMY later as a proffesional career entry..the age limit for this entry I believe is bit higher...
Just throwing out ideas...
As for Skydiving instructor exam.... Most of my buddies who instruct did not take that exam until over 1000 logged jumps...and a few of these guys are over 5000 logged jumps to date... They lowered the requirement to 500 jumps for instructor level prequal a year ago...Instruction in skydiving is serious especially to teach begginers who don't have control yet..it is very rough on your nerves..thats why these instructors smoke and drink to no end...also they do lots of tandem jumps which is even more nerve racking...when it's a cute 22 year old girl it's FUN...but when a fat huge person shows up..then you cry... The only teaching and coaching that is fun is for advanced levels of RW/CRW...but if someones paying you money you better be good...many of the coaches at Eloy, AZ are members of very elite world championship skydiving teams..in fact AirSpeed beat the Golden Nights just a few months ago in competition..
Regards
Chris
