CSM Purdy is a true warrior !If he is one in the same, I went to PCT
(Platoon Confidence Training)in Germany where he was the 1stSgt.
As a Sp.4 I saw first hand his method of leading by example,I learned more about respect and how to lead by example from watching him !
His point of view on the "Army of One " is dead on the money !
Are we, you prepared,to have the soldiers that have enlisted in the "Army of One" today lead our sons or daughters in to combat in the future ? The "Army of One " needs more leaders with CSM Purdy's
attitude and drive !

Delta, what Ranger class were you in sir? Just curious, also when were you in the 505?
Class 7-90 if I remember right. I was in the 505 from Jan of 90 thru June of 93.
Ft. Bragg sent me to Ranger school. I tried to go in Jan. after IOBC but I didn't pass the CWST. When I hit that cold water my body kind of went into thermal shock.

CSM Purdy is a carnivore, like a tiger. The top brass is part of the "A$$-monkey" species. The problem should be readily apparent at this point, but I'll elaborate anyway.
A$$-monkeys, as with all apes, are higher up on the eco-system than tigers due to their higher level of REMF intelligence. This allows them to come up with elaborate excuses on how they don't need to do things the way the tiger would. They will not allow a creature like the tiger to be elevated to their level of authority because........the tiger will eat them .
The a$$-monkeys only are interested in their personal stash of bananas. The tiger has no use for bananas in it's life, so it posseses none. Without bananas, the tiger cannot peak the interest of the a$$-monkeys. Through the lack of bananas, the tiger cannot get the a$$-monkeys to see it as anything but a threat, so it cannot persuad the a$$-monkeys to even LISTEN to it......they just run and hide when they see the tiger.
If CSM Purdy just had some bananas, the Army would be a different place today, but, alas.....tigers still don't know about bananas and the a$$-monkeys still sit around making the rules and playing with their bananas.

Opforlt, good response but you seem to have lost the point of that Statement. Clinton was Liberal, Clinton was the leader of our military as CinC of the armed forces, and he was the destruction of much that was good. His his PC BS infected our entire military by the leaders he appointed and the priorities he pushed. They say **** rolls down hill, and indeed it did. When will you admit this simple truth that Clintoon hurt the military? Notice I did not mention a political party in this entire discussion, therefore I AM being NONPARTISAN.

Of course the Army was ready and able to perform the types of missions (OOTW) that Clinton asked of it. BUT was the Army as good as it was in '90, or as good as it could have been? Was the Army ALL IT COULD BE under Clinton?

I don't know CSM Purdy and have never met the man, but my only question is this:
Why did he wait until after he was retired to write his ideas out for all of us to read. Was he just as careerist and political as the other CSMs and GOs in our Army by waiting to do it after he was released from the grip of active duty?
The problem I have with things like this is the same problem I have with guys like Hackworth - they say a lot but they aren't helping out at all. Instead of just talking some smack, why didn't you try to fix what was broken when they were in?
Do NOT misinterpret my remarks. I have nothing but respect for the accomplishment of Purcy and Hack as SOLDIERS. As retirees, they seem to leave a lot to be desired. They are full of a lot of ideas, but apparently no action.
Yes, I have on my flak vest and my ballistic helmet, so commence to fragging my ass.
Just an opinion. Just bugs me when people don't speak their minds WHILE they are in teh uniform.
If any of you know from first hand knowledge that he did all the stuff he talks about while he was in uniform, let me know and I will be glad to post a public apology.
