The Stryker Brigade has now deployed from the NTC to Ft Polk. When the evaluation is complete the SECDEF has to report to Congress. At that point maybe there will be no more Stryker equiped units.

As for Sheridans - I agree totally. That was a huge mistake. We should have fielded the MGS before retiring the Sheridans, even if they were maintenance nightmares. And the MGS was cancelled - not a wise decision.
Perhaps you are referring to the M-8 Armored Gun System (AGS). The MGS is the Stryker variant with a 105mm gun. The same Stryker that definitely won't fit on a C-130, because the gun makes the system too big. Like it matters, when the regular Stryker can't fly over 200 miles because of weight restrictions. If the damn thing is "just a battle taxi", then the powers that be need to come right out and say so. Quite frankly, I've not seen a really definitive description of just WHAT the Stryker is supposed to do. You know what it won't do? It won't put a Brigade on the ground in 96 hours, and a Division in 120 hours. Believe it or not, the Air Force is laughing at us over this non-starter.

your profile doesn't make sense to me, then. You were a drill sergeant at 22? Isn't that a bit young?

And your comments about these guys being in junior high. Man, read their profiles. These guys were in back in the early nineties, early eighties, early seventies, and in a few cases, early sixties. There is a huge wealth of knowledge and experience on this site.

Hey, Cherrylt, maybe the arguments are off like the arguments against the blackhawk and M2. But please explain the lies about air transportability. If you remove the statement about air transportable by C130 then we can start over. When someone tells me something I always believe them unless I can spot inconsistancies. So when the plot of your fairy tale starts with.... Yeah, the Stryker is transportable by C130... on the griound and ready to move in 5 minutes or less, I put one hand on my sack and the other on my wallet.
I went to Saudi with the 325. DRF1. Your opion might be that we would have gotten our butts kicked. Hell, Jimmie Johnson thought we would as well. But we will never now because no matter what you think, the 82nd ABN DIV kept the Iraqis from crossing the border. And yes you are a cherry. I was an Engineer squad leader then, Ranger and Jumpmaster qualified. You were using your talents and I was using mine. But don't put yourself down, hell its honorable when you can't do anything else.

No one seems to remember the "controversy" over the M2 or the Blackhawk except "cherry" types like me that were in the Army when most of you were in junior high. I was a drill sergeant in 1989

M2/M3 BRADLEY
Type: Infantry/cavalry fighting vehicle
Entered Army service: 1981.

The Black Hawk is the Army’s front-line utility helicopter used for air assault, air cavalry, and aeromedical evacuation units. It is designed to carry 11 combat-loaded, air assault troops, and it is capable of moving a 105-millimeter howitzer and 30 rounds of ammunition. First deployed in 1978

Don't get me wrong, but you are talking about equipment that entered service in 1978 and 1981, and then you talk about 1989. You were 11 and 14. How does being a Drill Sergeant in 1989 even relate to 1978 and 1981. I think the OD to BDU controversy is a little closer to your time frame, or maybe even the new "expensive" PT uniform, but I just get the feeling that you really Don't remember the controversey over the the Bradley and the UH-60 since that was going on a decade or more before 1989. That does not disqualify you from having an informed opinion on Stryker or anything else here, but it sure doesn't justify it or make it sound more credible either.
