We did drill and ceremony.

Man wish I didnt pass up marching bad in JR high, and highschool.

We all looked dumb lol and some of the kids were turning left when they said right.

All and all it was a good time learning something.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!

Okay, I know I've been TDY for a while, but this is ridiculous!!!

I am completely against giving rank away just for completion of some pre-basic training. While I admire the fact that you are attending (as well as volunteering to protect our constitution, bnz), I cannot believe that they are just giving away stripes for this. I just look at this DEP training as something to make life easier on you for when you do attend boot camp.

Damn, what's next? Maybe they will give you Airborne wings for being able to jump off a ten foot ladder. Or maybe they will give you the Ranger tab if you can sit in these classes all day without eating. Maybe they'll give you Pathfinder wings for re-painting the parking lot to accommodate multiple cars in a staggered trail left formation (with the last one being a station wagon with a trailer)....

I'm sorry, but I don't think this is a good idea. In my humble opinion, I would rather have the DIs/TIs give rank to personnel who have displayed leadership abilities throughout basic training. You could have a set quota like 5% get E-3 and 10% get E-2 to deserving individuals through pre-set standards, not just "how many college credits do you have?" or "did you attend DEP training". Obviously, both of these should put you ahead of your peers, but too many people get promoted instantly because mommy and daddy paid for them to go to college.

This is just my two cents.

JOEL0622- Thats whats on the list.

AF/AbnRngr- I dont know exactly how they will test us but im guess we will have 1 shot at knowing Military time, Drill & Cerm, General Orders, Rank, Phonetic Alph, First aid, Land Nav, and a APFT.
It maybe easy stuff for you guys, but im sure most people will fail it. Today was a 2hr of just Attention Rests, Forward march, left/right face, and other basic stuff. I basicly get it but my feet dont naturally move with the left foot first. Most of the kids couldnt even tell left from right while thinking about turning (mabies wes juss stoopd keds i gess).

I honestly dont think its a great idea about getting promoted before we doing anything(even though I dont know how it happens when your in), but its there smarter to take it then leave it.

Also its better then to refer 2 people and not know anything to get promoted before you leave its easier to find 2 people then to learn all this stuff (in my opinion).
I would rather do it the harder way.

AF/AbnRngr, duu-uude,
it's like, all about self-affirmation, man. Y'know, like how schools don't give out grades anymore. Or how sports teams don't "win" or "lose" games. What would happen if kids had to learn that things can be difficult? What would life be like if children had to strive or work? What would this planet be like if kids had to learn about responsibility?
And if you make it dificult to enlist or advance in the army, then little Johnny and, more importantly, little Janie, wouldn't want to stay in and get their college money.
