Everybody takes the US dollar in A-stan.
Hell, we can stop on patrol out in the middle of no where, with no electric or water, but if you hand them a dollar or two you can buy stuff. They don't even know the exchange rate I bet. I don't even think they care.

The question has been answered, but I'll add that the finance offices are no longer cashing checks, due to the requirement of the eagle card.

Blacksmith Six (12/14/2009) The question has been answered, but I'll add that the finance offices are no longer cashing checks, due to the requirement of the eagle card. That may be location specific. I know they are trying to minimize the use of personal checks, but they are still being accepted. I always take a few blank checks just in case.

I had heard that. Word is they are trying to reduce the amount of USD liquid in the Iraq theater as they pull back from some of the smaller FOBS and closeout this and that due to the withdrawal. I have some old co-workers back in the sandbox, but I think they went either to Kuwait or Qatar.
