Gents of the sea..I being a gent of the land of the special origins and having been removed from such activities for 25+ years now have a quandary. I have a gentleman who posts no publicly visible claims of SEAL-manship, who is friends on the Internet site Facebook (Yes, I am there) with a very close friend of mine of foreign nationality, as well as friends with lady friends of hers, that claims to have been a US Navy Seal active on team for the conflicts in the middle east.

This gent recently wrote a poem which I had wanted to read about non military things and I befriended him. I asked through Ruth (my friend) that he contact me via paratrooper.net, or any other "official" channels so that he might be privy to more about me and so I might "know" this fellow better. Afterall I spent a significant amount of my military time around Marine recon, SEALS and SF types in my duty.

He "chatted" me via Facebook chat last night late and yes, he did claim to be a US Navy SEAL. And so, I queried as to his service times and dates, to see if by chance he'd know any of the active fellows I stay in contact with, but of course not revealing those soldiers.

My, did red flags fly. And so I am here first. Next I will make the query "official" but doing so causes much grief. The first MAJOR red flag is his claim that his military service records had been expunged and no longer existed. I am sorry, I have a Federal National Security clearance which if needed for official use can be used to query even "spooky" and I have NEVER run across this scenario, even for top guns. And if such a ghost did exist, I suspect he'd not be on Facebook.

So, who can contact me privately as so that I do not stir a hornets nest on this chap?

For the overtly curious, if you PROMISE me you will not notify the chap I am looking into his claims, send me a notice and I will send you his profile link so you can attempt to determine gracefully if he will claim to be a US Navy Seal. If in the future it is determined that the chap is a poser, I will publish his info here. (I suspect a female gender will do better with this attempt.)

Who am I and what right do I have to query about the claim of a potential real Seal. Look into my profile here, ask the System Operator who I am if that does not quell the curiosity. I am a nice guy who just wishes to remain quiet and nice.

Semper Fi to my Marine Buddies and Non Sibi Sed Patriae for the rest of you swabbies!

I think there is a site called Cyberseals that will verify any SEAL claims.  All you need is a name and they will run it through their database.

The whole thing about expunged/sealed records is BS, as I'm sure you know.

SEAL associations will also help expose a poser.

As noted on the CyberSEAL website http://cyberseals.org/SEAL%20Imposters.html They no longer post the names of past posers nor do they offer authentication or denial of present posers. I have contacted the SEAL association but have not heard back and I can not find a DD214 record for the man who claims to be SEAL. He has never served in the military according to my check.

The one thing that I do know, is that if he is who he says he is, then there is no way he should be on Facebook.  I had to change my last name and take down all photos of my husband on there due to what he is involved with right now.  I never knew I was in OPSEC and PERSEC violations, but I do know that his unit monitors that stuff quite frequently.

My best friend is a Commander in the Navy and is stationed at the Pentagon.  Do you want me to see if he can find out anything?

Good luck in rooting this guy out.  A claim of expunged, sealed, or destroyed military records is Poser 101.

I wish we had the secret squirrels Hollywood makes films about, would be nice to avoid putting our sons and daughters in harms way with the solitary effort of a single Bourne or some such. Alas... we all know that isn't the case. Good hunting on this poser assclown...

Well milords and miladies,

As promised: Having spent prudence and care to have never confronted him and politely look into his claims of once being a member of a SEAL team of the United States Navy, it has been determined that a resident of Almyra, Arkansas going by the name Chad (Charles) Ward, date of birth 6/7/1972 has never been a member of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. While claiming to unassuming women of his SEAL prowess and combat veteran sniper status in THREE different theaters of war over the past 10 year, "ass clown" has fictitiously had fallen comrades of SEAL class die in his arms while defending the rights of other nationalities to live at peace in their homelands. His Facebook ID http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/chadwward

It is assumed since he make no written public profession of his service, unless such can be retrieved from a victim of his misrepresentation, that matters of the "Stolen Valor Act" will be hard pressed to impose to this poser. So having not personally addressed this issue since the passing of the stolen valor act and being sometime dismissing of liars, how do you my comrades believe this matter should be addressed and/or handled? In an ideal world a scene from "True Lies" comes to mind. Any of you SEALS out there near Arkansas? Any of you ciber warriors have other suggestions?

For the moment, I shall keep "ass clown" on my friends list so I may have access to his profile if needed.
