| Hello fellow Paratroopers, It's been a while since I last posted. I am in country right now and I am waiting for a Flight at BIAP (I have been waiting for 3 days) and I thought I would send a little post here. A few weeks ago I was reminded why I love being a Paratrooper. I started out my tour as a member of a Civil Affairs Team supporting 1st Cavalry Division. As an OPCON unit, we were treated really poorly, kind of like we were taking something away from the 1st CAV. Really we wanted to be an enabler and force multiplyer but thats not how we were viewed by the LEG Command. They gave us some BS missions and completely misused us. The purpose of this post is not to complain however. Someone at our higher saw the missuse and gave us a FRAGO to go support the 82nd. Life has been great. The paratroopers from 82nd welcomed us in and allowed us to do our job and help them do theirs. Not only that but the Chain of Command both officers and NCO's go out of their way to make sure we are getting what we need. I work every day with fellow Paratroopers and we work together well. I was recently Promoted to E-5 and feel like I have a great Example of what to aspire to be along with the previous experience showing me what not to be. Any Comments from the forum? What exactly is it that Makes Paratroopers better at everything else?

| Your comments sound all too familiar. We know the Airborne has it's enemies within the Army as well as political enemies without. There are plenty of leg officers who would like nothing more than for the Army to reach the same decision about the Airborne that the Marines did ( very limited small-unit application ). "All we need is five Army divisions who can handle any mission ( five heavy mechanized divisions ). All these "specialized" divisions are a waste of money. We can't afford a whole division waiting around for an "airstrip mission". Truth is they are just strongly prejudiced against the Airborne and other "elite troops". We have our political enemies too who are looking for ways to cut the Military to the bone. If the money to fund the 82nd were given to the Nation's universities for research grants they could study the trail patterns of slugs or some such. Don't kid yourself ! They will come crawling out from under their rock in dew time.

msully243 (7/4/2009) Any Comments from the forum? What exactly is it that Makes Paratroopers better at everything else?We weren't given Wings, we earned them. Not everyone has what it takes to be a Paratrooper, we weren't given that name either, we earned it.
