I am looking for a Reserve or Guard AF unit that jumps. I am a former ARMY Paratrooper and currently in the NAVY Seabees reserve. I have a lot of MOS's and am currently an Information Technologist. I specialize in computer networking in a field environment. I want to jump again but am too old to go SF. Any ideas?

| First of all, welcome. You're going to have to fill out your profile before anyone takes the time and effort to get you some good info. Sometimes we get some real clowns here. There are folks here from all facets of service so you'll probably get some good info then.

| Based of the name I'd guess it's from Northern Flo-rida I'm an Eagles and Nittany Lions Fan myself, but I guess I could talk to him.

Are there any AF units other than PJ/CCT/TACP and SOWT that jump?

Kentucky Guard has the only Guard CCT unit. Florida has the Rescue Squadron over at Patrick AFB, and most states have JTACs in their Air Guard. But if you want to jump in the AF SERE instructors are on status in many Guard and AF reserve units. Charleston has two slots that just opened up and both are on status.....lucky bastages....

| If you are in the Southeast I would look at the 20th Special Forces Group, based in Birmingham AL, and with sub-units all over the Southeast. Remember, not everybody in an SF Group has to be SF qualified (18 series), in fact, I think the ratio at group level is something like 55% SF qualified positions and 45% non-SF qualified positions. The Group HQ has an MI Detachment, a Signal Detachment and a support company. Each battalion also has a support company that includes MI, Riggers, Signal, and service detachment (cooks, mechanics, PAC, etc.) While not all SF positions are 18 series, they are all (in theory) on jump status, which means you can jump and even go to JM school. When I was in 5th Bn, 19th Group in CO it wasn't unusual for all of the JMs on a jump to be non-SF tabbed NCOs from the Support Company. I spent almost 10 years in SF units and have never been SF tabbed. Actually, being in support in an SF unit is a pretty sweet gig.

I will check into that. I'm too old for the Q course anyway.

Welcome, I am also a three brancher. Navy Hospital Corpsman, Army Infantryman and now Air Guard. There is also a Special Tactics Squadron in the Oregon Air Guard but the only jump slots are CCT and Weatherman. I know there are Civil Engineer units in the Air Force that jump but I think they are all active duty.

I plan to live forever. So far so good.
