This stuff just sickens me.

All it took was the gunshot fired outside his Walker County home to trigger training ingrained in former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, the lone survivor of a dramatic battle in Afghanistan in 2005.

He did a sweep through the house. Checked on his mother. And bolted out the door, where he found dead his beloved Labrador retriever, Dasy, a dog given to him to help him recover from his own wounds and the loss of his fellow Navy comrades.

That's a sorry, sorry story.  I hate that he had to go back to the place that he did but I'm proud of him for knowing what he was doing and what was going to happen if he got the individuals (notice my restraint) who did this.

This is a big topic on a few other boards I'm on. People are calling for heads, and rightfully so.

It's really about a lot more than the dog. He is someone who is dealing with things you or I cannot even imagine. He has really sacrificed his whole life for this country, even though he is still alive. He has no children, no wife. His best friends all died in front of his eyes. He cannot imagine why he is alive and they are not. He has constant pain from enduring things unspeakable on behalf of his country. He named the dog DASY which is an acronym for his team members who died in Afghanistan, and then some pieces of garbage execute her--his best surviving friend. He is wrestling with concepts of justice, self control, grief and survivor's guilt. Toward the end of the firefight that killed his team, he actually stood out in the open firing at them and screaming "kill me, you incompetent bastards... kill me" ...and they couldn't get the job done.

He chased down the scum that shot his dog and then didn't hurt them, just turned them over to the police. He said they were laughing and having a good old time when he first approached them. The dog was shot at point blank range with a .357 magnum and left a blood trail of 15 feet trying to drag herself back to the house--that's what they found so funny. He had two guns and could have killed all of them in 3 seconds or at a minimum beaten the hell out of them. I don't no where he got the self-restraint to do nothing. My fear is that we are headed down a path where men like this will no longer find this country worth making the sacrifice for. Then we are done for.

I listened to this last night on Glenn Beck and it brought tears to my eyes.  This man went through a lot for this country and these cowards will never know just how much he did for them.  My heart aches for him.

If you haven't read his book, Lone Survivor, or something like that, please do.  It details the battle.  I believe it was the battle that LT Murphy earned his CMOH, and Marcus lost his brother, also a SEAL.

He wrotes about how a local family took him in, hid him for the taliban and nursed him back to health enough to get a rescue team in.

I hope the trash that did this gets what's coming to them, but sadly, it'll be nothing more than a weapons charge.  I wish Marcus would have caught those guys that night.

I for one think that Marcus Luttrell showed some incredible restraint in this.  That just goes to show you what kind of person he is.  I hope the responsible individuals get sentenced to prison, get raped, then get shanked.  That would bring some closure to this.  Still won't make up for it, but atleast some closure.

It takes a lot for somone to catch up to them, confront them and not do bodily harm.  His beloved pet was killed in cold blood.  I am sure others would not have been so kind.  I hope the judge takes this into consideration after all that this man did for this country and make sure these men live a long life in prison where men do not take too kindly to animals being killed.
