NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Navy Reserve Forces Command has a new home. Officials on Tuesday cut the ribbon on the Navy Reserve's new three-story, 90,000-square-foot headquarters at Norfolk Naval Station. The headquarters relocated from New Orleans as a result of the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission report. By this summer about 450 sailors and civilians will be working here, overseeing the financing, equipping and deploying of Navy reservists worldwide. Officials said the move made sense because it puts the reserve headquarters on the same base as U.S. Fleet Forces Command making for better communication between active and reserve forces.
"American Parachutists...devils in baggy pants...are less than 100 meters from my outpost line. I can't sleep at night; they pop up from nowhere and we never know when or how they will strike next. Seems like the black-hearted devils are everywhere..." (An entry in a German officer's diary found after the Battle of Anzio)
