very impressive looking ship... was this the ship being discussed to being deployed over near Somolia to deal with the Pirates? or am I thinking of something else..?

It may be someday but not for a while. It is currently going through Sea Trials 2. Once the GD boat USS Independence comes on line and goes through trials the Navy will be doing some side by side evals to try and determine which class boat they want more of.
