It is my sad duty to inform you that Don Lassen, WWII combat veteran of the 82d with 2 combat jumps into Europe, passed away last night at 2330.
Don was the Chairman of the Atlanta All Airborne Chapter of the 82d Airborne Division Association, publisher of the Static Line newspaper, and a friend.

| This is a blow to the community and a sad loss of an outstanding trooper, patriot and friend to the airborne community. His contributions are long and honorable. I wish I could say more but I just heard this news not more than a minute ago via phone and it has really struck me. Don has been a valued friend and a mentor as long as I have been active in this association, he will be missed. RIP my friend.

A little more detail It is with deep regret that our Association announces the death of Donald D. Lassen on 7 August 2008 at the age of 86. Don, affectionially known as "Mr. Airborne" by the International Airborne Community, was a Charter Member of this Association and the founding father of the Atlanta All Airborne Chapter. He was also the Editor of the Static Line and long time organizer of the Static Line Awards Festival held each year in April. He is survived by this widow Frances and two children. At this time we know that he is to be cremated and his ashes spread along the Airborne Walk at Fort Benning, GA. No official day or time has been released yet. We will let you know more as the details are given.

Rest easy, Don. He has probably been more instrumental in building the Airborne community than anyone else.

| Rest in peace Don. You will be truly missed, and honorably remembered, always.
I think that I have a picture with Don from every convention in the last 7 years. Funny thing, couldn't find one picture with Mark in it with us!!! Don used to tell Mark, no you take it, this one is for us.
