Came across this interesting article http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7494357.stm and thought it was worth sharing. Have to say that the few Russian veterans I have encountered over the past couple years have had a mix of dread and hope towards our operations there. They know what the enemy is like and have little good to say about them but also realize our goals and methods are very differant from the ones the Soviets had so are optomistic about a better outcome.

Yer, khyros.
The enemy is the same. But unfortunately the are also learning from the past. But thanks god, you are sending prepared troopers there, not the draftees as we did.
I pray for all of them to stay safe and come back.
Let's go!

Ever read Kipling? He had some pretty strong sentiments about the locals there... and they haven't changed much since his day. I have a strong suspicion that we'll still be fighting guerrillas in Afghanistan for years after things settle down in Iraq.

I think unfortunately yes. The guerrilla combat is in there blood. And also 1 or the 2 ways they can make money. The second is heroin.
Let's go!
