82ndshack (6/13/2008) Hey guys don't laugh, I just got the one about Lee Marvin and Capt Kangaroo being on Iwo together and at the end it talks about Mr Rogers being a Navy Seal and how he always wore long sleeves to cover up the Tatoos. There was a snopes link on this msg so it could be true. The one that I heard about Lee Marvin was that he got shot in the ass and never got off the beach at Iwo Jima. If that version is true, one has to wonder which side had him in their sights.
All the way, sir!!!

Damn! You mean Mr Rogers was not a Marine/Ranger Sniper in Nam with the Chinese Bandits. Now I am really pissed off.

| A little known fact. Lee Marvin and Bob Keeshan did both serve in the Marines.
Bob Keeshan, never saw combat.
There is no record of Lee Marvin at Iwo Jima or winning the Navy Cross. Marvin did see a lot of action in the Pacific participating in the invasions at Kwajalein and Eniwetok and was wounded in Saipan, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Marvin is buried in Arlington Cemetary.

Hendrix was in the 101st in the early 60's and ETSd long before they went to Vietnam. The only other celebrity paratrooper I can think of off the top of my head is folk/pop singer Shawn Mullins, who was in the 82nd in the 1990's.
