Have you read the Basic Airborne Course web pages on the Fort Benning Web site. I think not.

Well, partner I have read it, I know exactly what it says, as a matter of fact the first time I read it was about 8 years ago, guess you didn't read my initial post.

The reason I asked is because I had guys in my Air Assault and Rappel Master course, and I know 2 guys who wore them in Ranger school. And it also states in their POI that:
Military issue eyeglasses 2 pair with retainer straps, as required.
Contact lenses are NOT authorized.

I wanted to know if it was common practice, and if I could get away with it also.

Well Staff Sergeant, having helped run the school for about 18 months, I think that I'm more than qualified to make my statements. If you read it and understood it then no matter what anyone else said told you then the answer was obvious. Go ahead and spend your money. They are not, repeat not Army issue.

I can not speak for the standards of the Black Hats today. But there was only one standard during my tenure. It was what was published.

The United States Army Airborne School is the only Joint military school in the DOD. It is run by the army but it is a joint school. It is the only school in the military that is authorized instructor positions by TDA from all branches of service.

The reason that there is strict adherence to the published list is because students come from all over the world to attend and the cost of sending them home is more than just money. Its the loss of a slot for that week that could have been filled. It is the loss of respect for the troop when he has to return to his unit without even getting in processed.

More so than any other school in DoD this school follows a strict set of standards that are taught to the Blackhats. Unlike any other school where much of what is taught is subjective to the whims of the instructors (I include both Ranger and SFQC) every instructor at BAC that wears that Blackhat grades to the same standards, teaches the class the same exact way and preforms to a standard the same way. Maybe that is history. Maybe not. I can't say as I'm now retired.

But this is one school where you don't want to try and cut corners. It's only 3 damn weeks. Just do what they say, when they say and how they say. Take exactly what they tell you and don't try to improve, replace or supplement anything.

Once you get to an Airborne Unit, life changes. But until then, just be a lemming and follow the crowd. Your life, and more importantly, the life of another paratrooper may just depend upon it.

And I'll just let the partner comment go.

Nah Al, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and he is at least looking to leave the dark side. He also had enough cells upstairs to come here and seek advice.

So maybe there is hope. Besides, the only dope on a rope is the one who doesn't know when to let go.

Well, this is my last reply to this thread since this will turn into a pissin contest, and I dont have the time nor the patience for it.
So when I said, ''I wanted to know if it was common practice, and if I could get away with it also".
I was not saying it like I was trying to pull a slicky boy move on anyone.

But Thanks fellas for the speedy answers, appreciate it.

Yeah, OK, lets make a big deal out of that!

Big deal or not, the comment from someone coming here form the outside seeking advice and help is a sign of disrespect. If you were going to do as you pleased based on info from others, why did you come here?
