I thought that I would pass this intel along.

Just one more thing to worry about!!!

Keep an Eye on your license plate.

A woman said her son found his license plate missing so he called the police to file a report. They told him people were stealing the plates to get free gas. Given the rise in gas prices, people have taken to stealing license plates, putting them on a their car (same make and model), then getting gas and running. The gas station will have "your" license plate # and you could be in trouble for "pump and run." Check your car periodically to be sure you still have a plate. If you should find it missing, file a report immediately!!! Keep an eye on your license plate! Make sure you always know it's there! When the license plate is reported as the "drive off vehicle," it's YOU they contact! Be aware!!!! Be aware of your license plates, most of us never look to see if the plates are there or not.

Pass this on to everyone you k now (Even if they don't have a car) They can pass it on to their friends with cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the way, sir!!!

I have stopped at a few in Illinois, but haven't see a lot of pay to pump stations.

based on my recent trip from Bragg to my HOR in PA, it seems that most of the states on the East Coast  are now prepay for that very reason.

In the Fayettenam area, you've always had to watch your plates.  I know of incidents where the locals (being read as Robeson County residents, mostly Lumbee Indians) would come up to Fayetteville and find recently renewed tags and swipe them.  It's not just the areas out toward BUS 95, I know of one incident by Sue's Sewing, right off base on Yadkin.

It saves them having to renew their registration, if they ever had one.

Dont get me started on the Lumbee Indians. All I have to say about the majority of them is that they somehow manage to dodge the annual gene pool purge.

Its only paranoia when they prove you wrong.

Maybe I don't understand this well, but isn't the license plate registered to my vehicle (or vice versa)?  How can I get in trouble if a gas thief has my plate in a vehicle that does not belong to me without my authorization or knowledge?

The perps (according to the article) will find a similar make, model, and color of their vehicle.  They steal the plate, and attach it to their vehicle, then get filled up at a gas station.  They don't pay for the gas, and, as they take off, the attendant copies down the plate number and a description of the vehicle.  He/she calls it in to the police, and you get a knock on the door.  You are now on the defense, trying to explain why it was not you that stole the gas.

All the way, sir!!!
