| I have a Pathfinder School buddy that is going to Germany to conduct an wings exchange jump. As part of the TDY they will attend the German JM course. But he's been offered an opportunity to do thier Freefall course as well. Trouble is he's not US Army Military Freefall but has advanced civilian ratings. Up to this point USASOC has not excepted his challenge package. His question to me was did I think that USASOC would recognize this additional training/certification/qualification and let him challenge the Army course? Does anyone have any thoughts? For me ORM on this one has political/physical hazards that could be career ending and I told him so.

I've been out a while but my recollection is that the Army does not recognize civilian FF training no matter how advanced. Don't know if that's still the policy or not, though.

| One of my NCO's last tour was on the SF Halo committee, and at that time, yes, they were taking advanced civilian FF certs up to table 15 ish or so. You had to challenge the 5 bench jumps, and perform them, but all the other stuff was largely waved. What the current MO is, I have no idea.

So, if I read this right - You're asking two separate questions:1. Will the HALO committee allow someone to "challenge" the MFF course? 2. Can your buddy attend German freefall school without being US MFF Q'd?
Last known answer to #1 = Sometimes. It has fluctuated for over the years and I don't know what the current standard is. My BEST GUESS Army perspective answer to #2 = NO. If he gets hurt, "Big Army" could rule his injuries not in the Line Of Duty and either make him pay for treatment or deny it to him. BUT - If he has orders sending him to German freefall school, then he's covered - By all means, GO. NOTE: If he does attend the German MFF course, the jumps won't count toward US MFF training, unless they are counted as skydives and he's allowed to challenge the US course. They would be good for his "air sense," however.
