| "I'm an old guy, and I can still do 12 milers in under three hours. " Glad to hear that Jumpmaster--I'm still in damn good shape at 6'6" 255 lbs. But untill I get a hip replacement, 12 miles is out of the question .A 40 yard dash is about it.

diroco (6/21/2008) Well, I got my tender old feelings hurt because right now it would take me two days to do a 12 mile road march. I would still do a combat jump --but would have to fight in place -- no retreat no advance .
Now THAT was freakin funny.

I WISH my ruck weighed only 85 pounds!!!!! Mortar baseplate, 3 rounds 81mm, M203, roll D-8 wire and TA-1 phone, then I got to add my shit. Two qt canteen cause I was then and still am today a water pig.......... You get the picture. The EIB roadmarch with 35 pound ruck was childs play.

Well for company road marches we didn't make the mortar magg...uhm I mean heavy weapons guys carry the base plates or any of the other specialties all their gear, everyone just did the standard 85lb ruck and 35 to 40 lb LBE. Now mission loads those were a bitch and seldom under 110-120 lbs and 12 miles was a short movement by most standards! Hard to believe that Al once had the rough manly hands of a SFer and now they are the dove soft hands of a AF loadmaster, lol.
Stand in the door!

No hard feelings here Staff Sergeant and for the record I certainly don't think I'm "better" than anyone else, maybe better trained in some different skill sets than most but there are quite a few members here with some more impressive skill sets so it's all good. As for te 12 miler I guess to SF guys and probably Rangers too doing 12 miles with 35 ib ruck is considered pretty low speed. Most of us sport LCE/LBV that weighed more than that then top off with an 85lb ruck or heavier then that my friend is a 12 miler! Don't sweat the tough talk around here being a Paratrooper is kinda like being a Virgin...either you are or you arn't if you arn't no one really gives a damn why, lol. Always loved that saying, good luck though since we were all Legs once upon a time and being Air Assault will actually give you some patience for the discipline and routine at Jump School. When you get those wings and become part of the brotherhood you'll enjoy harassing "earthlings" too!
Cool, I didn't mean everyone when I made the comment, and the 12 miler comment was in a jokingly manner. I to thought it was easy. But I really do appreciate your comment and look forward to joining this brotherhood and no longer being an earthling . Thanks and Peace JMPMASTR.

I appreciate all the welcomes and I really do feel the love from all the guys who couldn't do a 12 mile road march in less than 3 hours. Only on a broken foot. Every Air Assault slot we've ever gotten, I send one of my high speed troops.
