| Since when did they bring back the field jacket? I was at the Buckley AFB MCSS on Monday and they were selling what appeared to be an ACU pattern field jacket. It had the velcro on the sleeves and above the pockets just like the regular ACU. Is this thing even authorized? I thought the goretex ECWCS jacket replaced the field jacket years ago?

Martin, initially when the ACU came out I saw Soldiers in AIT at Redstone still wearing the woodland field jacket. This past winter they were wearing ACU pattern field jackets. I am pretty sure they sell them in clothing sales as well.

| Hmmm...I guess maybe because the goretex is/was a unit issue item rather than a clothing bag item and they need some kind of cold/wet weather jacket to wear when they're between posts or in basic/AIT? Only reason I can think of. I wear my old army field jacket when I go hunting but I can't even remember the last time I wore it when I was in the Army. Probably some time in the early 90's or so. They started issuing goretex in 91 or 92 to conventional units and ever since then I always had at least one goretex jacket.

| I was able to get my hands on the old field jacket, complete with hood, and liner. Also, gloves with 2 pair of inserts. That jacket lasted 2 decades of hunting and cold weather hiking.
All the way, sir!!!

I have a good ole U.S. Army O.D. Fatigue Field Jacket just like I wore in the late 50's-early 60's. The zipper is beginning to tear at the bottom, but otherwise it's in good shape. It has the US Army Name tape, white cloth wings, 82nd Patch. I was going to put Sgt chevrons on it but just never have got around to it.
