God forbid our service men and women should be treated like adults.

Concerned that the military is selling pornography in exchange stores in spite of a ban, one lawmaker has introduced a bill to clean up the matter.

“Our troops should not see their honor sullied so that the moguls behind magazines like Playboy and Penthouse can profit,” said Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., unveiling his House bill April 16.

Would he like the mom and pop convenience store down the street from to stop selling it as well?
I think the Supreme Court has already ruled on the subject of those magazines and he is sending up a Bill that will be shot down again on the same grounds other attempts to restrict/ban them has....

I don't think the courts have ruled on anything regarding selling on post.  On a federal installation Congress can control what is sold.

Perhaps, but you know that this is going to be fought with a lot of money from those publishers.
I think it is an absolute waste of time and money, and this Bill does not solve any great issues.
Some folks are offended by it, but they do not have to buy it either...  Shall we not allow the sale of alchohol on base too? Lots of folks believe it to be as evil as porn...

I don't think the courts have ruled on anything regarding selling on post.  On a federal installation Congress can control what is sold.

They were pulled off the shelves a few years back (I want to say around the late 90's but that may not be correct.)  Then there was either a lawsuit or the threat of a lawsuit and DOD was forced to allow them back.  There are basically 1st amendment issues that the DOD can't overcome.  Kind of similar to what happened when some posts (including Bragg) started having both "official" and "unofficial" post newspapers (the unofficial paper at Bragg was called the "Post" and for awhile they employed our own Mark Baker as a cartoonist.)  I think the Courts ruled that any restriction on printed material had to meet a "strict scrutiny" standard, which the DoD ban on Playboy, etc, could never meet.

LOL!

What a waste of time and money. Trying to ban the sale of "Playboy" and "Penthouse" on military reservations is doomed to fail. These are classy titty mags with occasional good articles that wouldn't offend your Grandpa.
