News you can use. It's official, DD-214's are NOW online. The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214's online:
to obtain copies of documents from their military files. Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site. Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records centers mailroom and processing time. Please pass this information on to former military personnel you may know and their dependents.
I took the road less traveled and that made all the difference.......

| You fill out the form then the request is put in the system, but it generates a form you have to print and mail still in order to complete the request. Nice that you cut a step but for the most part, it just helps them because then they just key in the number and pull up the data based on your input vs them keying it in. Its more of a time saver for the records pullers.

I just did that and I got my DD-214's back in a very short time even though they said it would take up to 26 weeks.

I had mine recorded at the county court house right after I came home and it is always there and readily accessible when I need one.
The hippo is unpredictable and aggressive with old scars and fresh, deep wounds providing signs of daily fights that are accompanied by much bellowing, neighing and snorting.

Grouchy Hippo (3/12/2008) I had mine recorded at the county court house right after I came home and it is always there and readily accessible when I need one.
Only problem with the court house route is that they are now a public record. If someone know they can go in with a FOIA form and request data on you by your name. And one of the documents they will receive is the DD214. The don't even blank out your SSAN. At least here in my county.

The records you get back from this should also include more than your DD214. It should include copies of citations, orders and various other documents from your time in service.
