When I was in they used Army Achievement Medals and Army Commendation Medals for "impact" awards. "Impact" awards were supposed to have a quick turn-around so that the Joe would be recognized within 30 days of the deed for which he was awarded the medal. [/quote]

That is basically what an impact award is. They fast track the paperwork through so the soldier can be recognized.
