Brig. Gen. Jesse R. Cross, U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School commanding general, presented Pvt. Dale Henny with the Impact Award Feb. 2. The Company C, 262nd Quartermaster Battalion, 23rd Quartermaster Brigade, Soldier earned the award for actions taken following a parachute jump to assist an injured officer.


"American Parachutists...devils in baggy pants...are less than 100 meters from my outpost line. I can't sleep at night; they pop up from nowhere and we never know when or how they will strike next. Seems like the black-hearted devils are everywhere..."

You are right. That should be left up to mortar and artillery.

Just remember to do a DYNAMITE PLF if your 'chute fails to open due to operator error.

What is an Impact Award?

What does it look like?

When I was in they used Army Achievement Medals and Army Commendation Medals for "impact" awards. "Impact" awards were supposed to have a quick turn-around so that the Joe would be recognized within 30 days of the deed for which he was awarded the medal.

It doesn't really say what kind of award the guy got in the story so I don't know.

The Impact Award, which recognizes safety-related actions above and beyond what is required of an individual or organization.

I found on Army Safety Center several award descriptions. Possibly Impact Award is a collective term. The article didn't specify.

The Soldier obeserved a jumper in trouble and with a very hard landing. He provided First Aid with C-Spine control.
