| By 'bad stuff', I was talking about all sin that permeates the world in which we live, since the fall of Adam. Perhaps God allows humans to err in order to drive people into the word for themselves. Concerning 'free will' I offer to you that total 'free will' in human beings only existed with Adam and Eve. Since the fall, every human being that has ever been born is in bondage to a 'nature' in total rebellion against God - unable on his/her own to even seek God. Romans 3 might help understand the concept of man's inability. Therefore, 'free will' is not really free, but in bondage and a slave to sin. When a person is saved, it is because of a supernatural 'awakening' by the Holy Spirit to the things of God that produces both a consciousness of human helplessness and a true desire to Choose Christ. Truly choosing Christ is in thta sense a 'freed will' decision. From that point, there is a 'new nature' in the human spirit that desires to serve and please God (Phil 2:13). I guess that's the short version of the doctrine of original sin. Some would say (I heard this in a chapel service) that original sin is just a 'dark cloud' that separates us from God, however I can find nothing in the Bible that supports that. Today sin is discussed as if our only attachment to it is in the things we do/don't do, etc., that separate us from God. That is not scriptural, as far as I can see. The true nature of sin in human beings, including it's power over anyone apart from Christ is a teaching largely lost in today's church in an effort to help people feel comfortable in their sin under the banner of 'unconditional acceptance' - also not found in the Bible. I hope that helps.
