It took 43 years for me to finally make the right move and join a local chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association.

The local chapter is 50 miles from my home, the New York chapter.

John, the President, and the 11 members that attended the meeting, welcomed me like brothers.  It was a feeling of camaraderie that I have missed for some time.

I arrived at the meeting late (due to visiting my daughter and new granddaughter at the hospital).  Luckily, I had informed John in advance of my full plate.

It looks like a busy chapter, and I hope to contribute where I can.

I brought my copy of "Power Pack". which is a pictorial history of the 82nd's time in Dom Rep, complete with battalion AAO's.  It was passed around to the members.

All laughed (including a Marine) when I gave my account of "The day we met the Marines".  I posted that on this site shortly after I joined P.net back in August of '06.

I am glad to be "back home".

Ted

All the way, sir!!!

See ya'll THAT post above is reason number #1 why you should join (for life) if you are not already a member........

Ted welcome to the fold....NOW YOU NEED TO COME TO THE CONVENTION!!!

By the way, my best friends dad was an brand new 2LT in the 1/508th during Power Pack. Went to the advanced course with a CIB and 82nd sandwich. Says he got his CIB in the Dom Rep, but EARNED it in Nam.

Hooah Ted, glad to see you made it into the meeting.

I have a hard time telling troopers (young AND old) that they should get to a meeting and then get to the convention, nothing we say here really describes the overall feeling you get and the bond that is strengthened. If you've ever felt like the world was busy kicking your butt and you just dont seem to have anyone covering your 6, get involved, you'll have a renewed sense of team when you know you have some trusted troopers to call upon, vent to or go to bat for.

When I was with the 82nd our 1SG would try and get us to join. I figured $82 is a lot of beer and didnt join. A few years later I decided to join and spoke with the Web Daddy and he hooked me up. When I get back to the States, I plan on making a convention. Looking back now $82 is a lot cheaper than $150.

Thanks to all.

Al, I have heard before the troopers that were in both Dom and Nam felt the same way.

As I have said many times, Dom was NO WAY as intense as Nam, but was my time in service, and I am proud of it, and am proud of all who served in any positive way in the service of their country.

I sometimes think of the 50's troopers as a continually sharpened knife that didn't get a chance to be unsheaved.

All the way, sir!!!

Ted, a bullet is a bullet and it will kill you dead the same in a police action, or a full blown war! You earned it.

Ted, welcome home, brother.
