martinjmpr (2/11/2008) Look at the Rangers for example: They don't make a distinction in terms of headgear between tabbed and non-tabbed individuals: Once a soldier completes RIP and is assigned to the Regiment, he is a "Ranger" regardless of whether he is an 11B infantryman or a 94B cook. Good point, but no one sings the Ballad of the Black/Tan Berets......no one wants to join the Black/Tan Berets. They want to serve in a Ranger Batt, which is different from wanting to wear a Green Beret w/o have to earn it. ENI v. INE to a lesser extent is my point. I understand if your ASSIGNED with out wrangling for the assignment and being issued one. But trying to get into a Group just to wear one is different, and I my thought is that is what he sounded like. But that is just my opinion....

Did this tool pass anything? Sounds like he can't pass a sick call opportunity either...Rocked out of Airborne and 97E school? Shit son, I passed those courses! Maybe someone will give me a Green Beret too! Oh, and being a gang-banger does not count as beiong shot at...
Do you listen to yourself when you talk; or do you just fade in and out?

airborneSGT (3/4/2008) Would it be crazy to try selection first before ranger school? I think I could be a good 18E. Military training aside I am a General Contractor by trade and former 11B2P. On the building side of things I imagine I have more knowledge then most 18B unless they are also capable of 4 story or more construction.
My thoughts were Ranger school first then try selection. Only problem is I am getting older and my friends around the same age who have made it says it all out sucks.Well if the average contractor can build bridges, airfields, lay minefields, build reinforced bunkers using nothing but hand tools and timber then by all means my civilian contractor friend you can claim more knowledge. While an SF 18C may not know or care diddly about HVAC he can precisely calculate, build, emplace and detonate a charge powerful enough to destroy a hydroelectric damn, plan and construct culverts, roads, build non-standard timber trestle bridges...yeah I bow to the overwhelming knowledge of a civilian contractor...NOT! Sounds to me like you need a huge dose of reality and humility if you think you are suitable for any of the 18 series MOSs. The men who graduate from these schools, especially the Deltas and Echos are among the smartest people you will ever meet period, inside or outside the military. They not only are experts in medical or commo they can teach others those skills as well. Thinking that you are the equal to any of my SF brothers before you ever attend Selection or enter the pipeline is niave and egotistical...two things that SFers definetly are not. Go to Ranger school you will need something to fall back on when you fail Selection.
Stand in the door!
