I was just awarded one of the $3,000.oo scolarships that they hand out (they give out around 25 a year).  It is a recruiting based scholarship, but it is worth it.  If any of you distinguished older troopers have any younger guys my age in your VFW Posts I suggest putting them in for it.  I will post more details about the scholarship soon for those interested.

Congrats on your award.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Thanks, if you know of any active, guard, or reserve troops that want additional help with school other than Ch. 1607 of the GI Bill, let me know.

Not yet MortarMan, I have a year of college, and then I am on my way down to Bragg for Active CA or 82nd, I have not decided which one yet.

Send your info, Airborne.

My Son just joined the Guard and will be headed to school full-time, so he can probably use it.

I'm a VFW Life Member, but I don't really know anything about this scholarship, because I'm currently disengaged from the organization.

Thanks!  From a fellow CA trooper...

JR, I just spoke to the Senior Vice Commander, and the applicant must be a VFW member, having been off of Active Duty for no more than 36 months, or a Guardsman/woman or Reservist. It helps if the applicant is a life member, or officer in the post. Another option is through the VA. If the service member is 100 % Permanent and Total disabled, their Dependants are eligible for about $875.00 a month toward college. There are numerous other scholarship opportunities, and I will post them for everyone as I locate them. Is this the appropriate thread for that, or should they be moved elsewhere?
