Can any of you tell me when LRSD came to Vicenza?

A fellow co-worker said he had a buddy who was in a LRSD in Vicenza around 95'.

I was in Vicenza with C co. 3/325 from 91-92 and the 412th BSB from 92-93 and ETS'ed from Drum in 95.  I don't recall any LRSD except in Germany.

Can some one clear up this issue for me?

I can't, but I have an asshole brother-in-law who was a cook and claims to have been a super-secret-squirrel in Vicenza for GW1 and thereafter. I wouldn't trust a word he says. If I sent you his name in a private mail, could you confirm or deny that he was full of it?

I lack people-skills.

I was in Vicenza in 95 and all we had was the Scout Plt.  I know because after serving in C Co. 3/325 (just like you brother!)  I went to the Scout Plt.  I actually went over there right after we reflagged from the 325 to the 508th.  Anyway, the Bn. reformed into an actual Brigade around 1999, when they brought over 3 Bn.s from the 503rd (yeah, packed it in tight on Caserma Ederle); anyway around that time they also reflagged the Brigade to the 173rd and stopped wearing the SETAF "Food Lion" and started rocking the 173rd patch.  Right around there, they started a LRSD and it's been up and running since.  Again, that was in 1999 or 2000, I believe.

As far as LRSDs go, I was in the 1st ID LRSD from 1992-1995, until we disbanded and then I went to Vicenza.  Hope that helps brother.

Oh, yeah and the LRSD in Germany was E 51st (LRSD); that's the one you're thinking about.  Also, could you PM me the name of your buddy's co-worker... could be he was in the Scouts and I know him... or I just know him because he was there in 95.

Q-Tip, there were never three battalions of the 503rd in Vicenza.  The SETAF Airborne Brigade was reflagged as the 173rd in 2000, but the 1-508th ABCT still formed the main element of the 173rd.  Early in 2002 the 2-503rd was activated in Vicenza to add a second Airborne Infantry Battalion to the Brigade.  The Battalion Combat Team was officially disbanded at that point with the slice elements coming directly under Brigade.  In 2005 the 1-508th was reflagged as the 1-503rd.

My bad man; I left Vicenza in March of 1999 when I joined the Air Force.  I actually got out of the Army in 1998 but stayed over there for a spell due to a girl.  While I was still living there, I actually went into a Reserve unit in Longare (anyone remember that place?).  Anyway, the girl I satyed with ended up being my wife (now ex-wife) and we have a daughter so I go back to visit quite a bit.  All I know is Vicenza has grown a lot.  There's new barracks going up where the North 40 Annex was (behind the inddor range and jump towers) and I guess they're talking about buying up all that land by the Italian Prison.  Also, the main gate is now out where the motor pool and wash rack used to be and the gate we used to use (by the chapel) to jam out to Il Fauno, the Red and Black or catch the old Autobus di Numero Uno to the train station is all gated up.  Who remembers waiting in line at that gate for like an hour to sign on Italian girls; after that it was usualy a long walk to the Club "V".  Anyway, my bad again for giving out the bad poop; I was unclear on all the changes   Still though, there was no LRSD in 1995, I know that much... only us measly old Scouts.  Speaking of which, ask that guy who his Platoon Sergeant was... in the Scouts we had SFC Mendoza, then SFC MacPeters; then SFC Bohn and when I left we had SFC Ansboro.  The guy who replaced Ansboro was a hispanic guy, I can't remember his name but he took over shortly after I left; I do remember he was pretty cool.  Also, in 95' we had 1LT Lersch as our PL and 1LT Alexander took over after he left... both good LTs.
