Seems like I should know the answer to this perplexing question after my first twenty but here goes; can the Infantry Cord & Disks be worn when taking your official photo?

The newly updated AR 640-30 (April 2006) doesn't mention it and my NCO support channel is divided on the subject, at my last photo session, the TASC camera expert had me remove them.

I'm still serving Infantry, assigned to an Infantry battalion, please advise.

Thanks

An 11B assigned and serving in this capacity is entitled to wear the cord and disc.

Infantry Cords and Blue Disks are not considered permanent awards like medals and such. As such I believe that you are not supposed to wear them in DA Photos.

He is correct, I misstated myself, the DA Photo does not allow the wear of them as it is NOT a permanent award:  here is the documentation: http://www.bragg.army.mil/iag/daphoto/prepare.htm

I've sent an email to DAPMIS, the regulations don't state that these items will not be worn unless you reclass into another MOS or are assigned to a non-infantry position or unit; but, if you are (which I am, thank God) serving in an infantry unit, you are authorized to wear this permanent award.

Hum, perplexing at best.

Here's the "official" word from the Director at DAPMIS.

"The regulation does not state specifically that you are authorized to wear these two items in you official photograph, therefore, if you chose to do so, don't be surprised if your photograph is ignored by the promotion board."

I still detest the idea of DA photos and strongly suspect that in some cases, appearence alone accounted for certain individuals getting promoted because technical and tactical competance were definately NOT a factor.
