FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper dies in Iraq

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - An 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper died of wounds sustained when his unit responded to a logistics convoy accident and one of the vehicles involved unexpectedly ignited, near the Al Anbar Province, Iraq, Monday.

The accident is under investigation.

Sgt. Kyle Dayton, 22, of El Dorado Calif., was an Infantry Team Leader, with the 2nd Bn., 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Abn. Div.

"Sgt. Kyle Dayton was more than just a leader, or a soldier, or a friend," said Staff Sgt. Geoffrey Creel, a squad leader in the same company as Dayton. "Dayton's personality, professionalism, and approach to leadership was a part of the soul of this company and of this battalion; and just as it is with everything lost, you only realize how important that part was once it is gone. Dayton was a large part of us; of our family."

Dayton joined the Army in October 2003. He graduated Infantry One Station Unit training in March 2004 and the Basic Airborne Course in April 2004 at Fort Benning, Ga. He arrived to the 82nd Abn. Div. in September 2005 and was assigned to the 2nd Bn., 504th PIR as an Infantryman.

Dayton deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from April 2005 to March 2006 with the 2nd Bn., 504th PIR.

"Dayton was a brother to us all, the bravery and courage he possessed will always be with the men of Bravo Company," said 1st Lt. Robert J. Hanratty, Bravo Co. Executive Officer.

Dayton's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal with two gold loops, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon with the numeral 2, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Parachutist's Badge.

Dayton is survived by his wife, Nicole Dayton; his son Sean Dayton both of Folsom, Calif.; and his mother, Linda Mclaurin, of Tracy Calif.

A Memorial ceremony will be held for Dayton in Iraq.

RIP, Trooper.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

RIP Trooper.

We will not forget you!

i am kyle daytons brother my name is brandon mclaurin. my brother told me 3 things before he left, first, if he died he wanted me to go back and fight for him and our country, second, he was so proud of his country that he wouldnt let a terorist kill him if he was shot he would have shot himself before he died because he wouldnt let the enemy have another kill, and third, he wasnt in the army for glory or praise he did it because he loved his country. he proved that by not telling his family about one of the several medals and ribbons he earned. he is one of the 3 most important men in my life and now i lost 2. he taught me things that no one else did. and i am going to fight for him see what he saw and manouver like he manouvered.

i love you kyle and i will fight for you.

i will evenge my brother

Rest in Peace Brother, my condolences to the Dayton family during this difficult time.

I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.
