| Elmendorf K-9 handler, dog get Bronze Star The Associated Press
Posted : Wednesday Dec 5, 2007 7:47:09 EST ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska — An Air Force K-9 handler and his dog received a Bronze Star on Tuesday for finding 2,000 pounds of explosives buried in eight locations in an Iraqi field. Staff Sgt. Christopher Barker and his dog, Jack, were honored Tuesday for finding the cache, which was set as a trap with an armed anti-personnel mine on top. Military officials said finding the mine in June 2006 possibly saved the life of a soldier. During their deployment, Barker and Jack conducted more than 350 hours of combat patrols, locating more than 3,000 pounds of explosives, 76 automatic weapons and 16 cell phones used for improvised explosive devices.

Thanks for posting. Its about time we, as handlers, get noticed for the job we do. Just think how many peoples lives have been saved.

There's a reason the dog is considered one stripe higher in rank than his handler you know... Outstanding work by this canine team!
