If he's considering the NG and going to school in PA (or thereabouts), he may want to research the 28th ID's 104th LRSD in Chambersburg, PA, though I'm uncertain if the unit is still in existence.

| be forwarned about joining ng units. the ones i've come across downrange are about as squared away as a football bat. we relived one ng unit when i was with 2 panther and we had to totally redo the way the camp was set up. these guys did not even know how to tie their night vision down. and most of their equipment is like hand me downs. and this was supposed to be one of those high speed infantry ng units. so good luck!

kanoockle (12/24/2007) be forwarned about joining ng units. the ones i've come across downrange are about as squared away as a football bat. we relived one ng unit when i was with 2 panther and we had to totally redo the way the camp was set up. these guys did not even know how to tie their night vision down. and most of their equipment is like hand me downs. and this was supposed to be one of those high speed infantry ng units. so good luck!Be forewarned that more than a few of the members here are currently serving in the NG, including more than a few who have been deployed to either Iraq or Astan(including some who are downrange now). I would expect quite a few to take exception to your blanket characterization of NG Soldiers.
