82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper dies in Iraq

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper died of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while on a ground patrol in Afghanistan, Saturday.

Sgt. Zachary D. Tellier, 31, of Charlotte, North Carolina was a Combat Infantryman with the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Abn. Div.

Tellier joined the Army in September 2005.  He completed Infantry One Station Unit Training and the Basic Airborne Course in 2006 in Fort Benning, Georgia. 

He arrived to the 82nd Abn. Div. in April 2006 and was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment.

Tellier’s awards and decorations include two Bronze Star Medals; one awarded for valor, two Purple Hearts, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and the Parachutist’s Badge.

Tellier is survived by his wife, Sara Tellier of Atlanta, Georgia; his father, David W. Tellier of Groton, Massachusetts; and his mother, Pamela Rodriguez, of Falmouth, Massachusetts.
