A buddy and I who were stationed at Ft Kobbe together are heading back to Panama in October. This is my first time back since leaving in August of '90. Was wondering if anyone had any good advice or some tips that may make it easier. We are planning on staying at Amador, where the rest of our battalion fought during Just Cause. We fought in Chorillos, but I can't imagine the country has changed that dramatically to where they put up a resort there. Besides, I still have a lot of bad memories from that neighborhood and the fighting that went on around the Comandancia; I think it's safer to see it from across the mud flats for now.

| I was at Ft Clayton and helped the 193rd wind down in 95. It's all Panamanian territory now so I don't know what to suggest. Howard AFB used to have some decent Qs but who knows now. Good luck though.

| Im sure Im a little late in posting this but Panama has changed leaps and bounds. Ft Clayton is now a a place of higher education. The whole thing! The jungle has claimed some of Sherman. Howard AFB was being turned into a PNP training center. Albrook is a community airport/bus terminal (for the really nice buses). Panama City itself has grown and tourisim is alive and well and growing. The Causeway has piers where cruise ships dock and left off its passengers. Tons of banks from Colombia have sprung up, resturants, hotels and anything else you need are on every corner of the city. The Panamian people arent hateful or resentful to Americans (and as I remember never were. At least not to me> infact, you will get further once they realize you ARE American. It has been around a year since I was last there, but the feel is the same as I remember and I loved every second I was there. Of course my family is from there and I am more inclined to feel at home in Panama than most people who have been stationed there. Enjoy your trip if you havent already.
