Funeral Thursday for Ohio Marine killed in Korea in 1950

Associated Press - July 10, 2007 8:35 AM ET

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - The newly identified body of a Marine killed in Korea in 1950 will be flown to Cleveland tomorrow and a funeral service is planned Thursday near Akron.

Private First Class Nick DiSalvo of Copley Township was killed during the Chosin Reservoir battle when Marines fought an onslaught of Red Chinese troops.

Comrades buried his body near the battle scene and the unidentified remains were turned over to the US in 1953. The body was recently identified through an unusual tooth filling and evidence of 2 childhood arm fractures.

"Hundreds of thousands of American servicemen and women are deployed across the world in the war on terror. By bringing hope to the oppressed, and delivering justice to the violent, they are making America more secure. "

Rest in peace...

"The degenerative and loony should never be denigrated but, rather, thanked. In their absence, the rest of you would be obliged to fill congressional seats... positions naturally unsavory to the sane and honorable."
