Here's what's scary:

CJCS: Navy (Mullen)

SOUTHCOM: Navy (Stavridis)

CENTCOM: Navy (Fallon)

PACOM: Navy (Keating)

SOCOM: Navy (Olson)

DNI: Navy (McConnell (Ret.))

Guess we should start talking Squid.

You can run and you can hide, but you'll only die tired !

Gee, it's a good thing we're not in a major ground conflict anywhere, huh.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Wow, Adm. Edmund Giambastiani is out too.  Looks like anyone tainted by Rumsfeld should be looking for the door.

The designated fall guy wears green. Whoop-de-doo.

I'd think you'd want someone in the big comfy chair that A) is intimately familiar with land warfare, B) knows how to get things done without letting the whole world peak behind the curtain, and C) is intimately familiar with irregular, guerrilla style warfare. Are there any SF type brass that are crazy enough to delve into the political cesspool and get things clicking along?

I believe that all of them realize that the answers lie in "black" ops tactics which must cross the line at times.

America can't do those things right out in the open or on any kind of large scale. We probably can't do them much at all in today's world of high tech communications because our involvement would probably wind up on the evening news.

We're not intimidating the enemy. They don't fear us. I think the Iraqi's that support us fear our collateral damage mistakes way more than any insurgent fears our ability on the battlefield. We need to support Iraqi "death squads" to brutalize the insurgents like we did in Latin America back in the '70's and '80's. We keep our hands "clean" that way. Making their forces disappear during the night without a trace or leaving a huge pile of their butchered flesh will demoralize them.

I don't believe in hurting children or having anyone witness a member of their family being disposed of. I do believe in the art of intimidation. In Latin America it was common to hang a hundred insurgents from the trees along their supply routes or to crucify them on rows of crosses. Bodies were butchered in mass and left in the open. The US ran this stuff for years without much more than a "black eye" in the public view. I'll bet that you won't even find one person in a thousand who'd even remember that we were at war down there.

Those restrictions are why I think we won't get any hooah General grabbing for the reigns. That is also why we're destined to never get a victory in Iraq.

Saw this over at Armed Forces Journal.  General Pace apparently sent a letter to the Judge in the Scooter Libby case.  Meaning, that if Pace had gone up to the Hill for re-confirmation, he wouldn't have been grilled, he would have been roasted over an open pit.  Frankly, this is beyond poor judgment IMO.

A copy of the Pace letter is posted at:

SOCOM: Navy (Olson)

Yeah - But that should say:

SOCOM: Navy (Olson) (SEAL)

I would say that counts as a ground warrior.  Especially with his Somalia time factored in...
