Oh how big blue bitches......

Makes me ashamed to be part of it.

The navy guys I've met have been Sea Bees, and EOD types, bubbas who don't seem to mind time on land. And of course the SEALs. But they all pull six months or less.

The AF guys have all been wizzo fixer upper types who bitch when the cable goes out in their air conditioned room. They pull a six month tour and bitch the whole time. The only ones I've seen pull a year tour is the 0-6 sent down to run the base where ever it is.

That keeps up the appearance of continuity when the 0-6 meets with his counterparts from the other branches.

But don't forget, the ONLY guys doing 12 months and more on their tours is just the Army. Even the Jarheads get a six month gig. And a few of them have been extended to 9 months.

Everybody should go for a year, then be out of the rotation for at least two.

There are more AF people doing six month and one year tours then most people know about.  All the trainers are on one year rotations, joint billets are all being converted to six month rotations.

People seem to forget that the one year rotation came into being only after it became apparent that this was going to be a long war.  The Army's initial rotations iinto Afghanistan were for six months, I don't see too many people here 2nd guessing that decision.

The ASG slots in Kuwait were six month tours for the first year and a half, then they became one year tours, again, I didn't see a lot of second guessing from the members here.

The Army would go to six or nine month rotations if they had the troops, they don't so 12 and 15 month rotations are the only way to make the mission happen.

FWIW- I know of one overseas location where the Army runs 6 month tours, and all the AF bubbas are pulling one year remotes.  Army doesn't cry too much about that rotation policy either.

Bottom Freakin' Line:

We need longer tours where we need continuity to accomplish the mission - REGARDLESS of what flavor DOD trooper is filling the billet.
