Just so you know I will be filing and posting an After Action Report on this myself. The Hippo and his fellow Eagles visited Recruiters Offices here in Michigan (I went to two myself) to show our support for the Troops and for Recruiters especially on this Armed Forces Day. http://gatheringofeagles.org/?p=436Operation Recruiter Appreciation: Amazing Work by EaglesMay 19th, 2007 The photos and stories are rolling in after two days of incredible work by GOE volunteers. There were, at last count, over 900 recruiter offices in all fifty states that had Eagles visit them to say thank you. Once again, Eagles rose to the occasion and answered the call of our patriots. Homemade cookies, sandwiches, cakes, pizzas, cards, posters, and love are being taken to recruiters all over the country. While antiwar anarchists march and protest, the Eagles support and defend. You can view the pictures as they come in by checking out the photos at the top of the GOE site, or by visiting the gallery here. We will be posting a full after-action report with stories and photos from Eagles nationwide. Stay tuned! Posted in After Action Reports
The hippo is unpredictable and aggressive with old scars and fresh, deep wounds providing signs of daily fights that are accompanied by much bellowing, neighing and snorting.

Well I wrote and filed this report with pictures but I can't figure out how to get the document on line to show it in toto. Here is the text anyway as I promised you something:
Operation Recruiter Appreciation May 19,2007 Pontiac, Michigan
Thanks to Wei Wang (pronounced Way Wong) the Gathering of Eagles was well represented at the Pontiac Recruiting Station. Wei made contact with one of the recruiters and found that only the Marine recruiters would be available on Saturday for the Armed Forces Day celebration planned on a nationwide basis to honor recruiters and show our continued support for the military.
Wei was accompanied by the Grouchy Hippo, one John Bowers by name, and they stopped at a nearby Rio Wraps for sandwiches and a selection of cold beverages for the hard working Marines to enjoy before visiting the shopping center store front recruiting station. Here is Wei receiving a Military discount from the store manager after Wei told him of our plan. It was his of helping us way of support the troops.
Marching in the door with red, white and blue, balloons Wei and GH met the SNCOIC of the station and presented him with a flyer that Wei had prepared to explain our mission.
Staff Sergeant Joseph T. Malas happens to be one of the recruiters from this area. He is seen here thanking the Eagles for their support. Staff Sergeant Malas is married and his family is from Canton, MI.
Staff Sergeant Dustin Rose was Wei’s first contact with the office and it turns out that he has local roots as well. From Taylor, Michigan the Staff Sergeant is married with two daughters. He was motivated to join the Corps after 9/11. The only Marine recruiter with an infantry MOS he is wearing a red tee shirt here because the day was a casual day for the Marines. No doubt a well earned break. You might also note the evidence of food and refreshments provided by the Michigan branch of the Gathering of Eagles. Hoo-rah.
Others in the office that day were Communications Specialist PFC Stephanei Knoppe from Waterford here on a month long assignment from her unit in California and Sergeant Jeffrey L. White who lays claim to roots in Reno where he was born but grew up traveling a great deal. A truck driver by MOS this Sergeant has two tours in Iraq. Since this was a day off for these two being in the office was just good luck for the Michigan Eagles who are most proud of them and glad to make their acquaintance.
Sergeant Alberto Najera from Los Angeles, California was also there that day. A married father of one little girl this Marine has another child due early in June. Good luck to the Combat Engineer and his wife on the upcoming birth. Notice how we tricked him into getting his picture taken by placing our banner in front of his desk and claiming that it was the banner we were photographing.
Sergeant Paul D. Evans Jr. from Boston, Mass did manage to avoid getting his picture taken by virtue of being busy with a recruit. We left him some pop and a sandwich anyway.
Wei and GH also managed to pop in to the Metro Detroit area Marine Corps Recruiter Headquarters in Troy, Michigan where the surprised Marines had already received their luncheon delivery and had been wondering who sent it to them. Since lunch was over we made them aware of who we were and why we had sent the treat.
In Troy it GH that presented the explanatory flyer Wei had made for the visits; an exciting and proud day for these Eagles.

Cool beans! Must of made those recruiter's day to discover folks care about them.
