I still want to find out, if there were snipers in D Co 105th MI BN LRSD out of Polk.  I got a guy sayin he was a sniper in that unit a while back.   As I remember, there was never a sniper slot in a lrs team.  But jrtc may run things differently because its a training post, who knows.  Anyone?

JRTC did not move to Ft. Polk until 1993 and has no LRS detachment as part of the TO&E, although Ops Group would certainly have a section to evaluate LRS detachments of units that train there.

There was a detcahment that evaluated LRSUs and Scouts and JRTC; my last PSG from the Scout Plt. in Vicenza was the NCOIC od the evaluation team.  Anyway, I do believe there were some school trained snipers in the Det. as they evaluated Scout Plt.'s as well.  Also, when I was a super-duper LRSU trooper, we had some school trained snipers in the Det, even though I don't think it was a primary part of our METL.  Pretty much, we got slots and sent guys to school.  On the flip side, when I was in Vicenza, in the Scouts, we never got that many school slots for Sniper but we had a lot of non school trained snipers (me included) behind guns... we did lots of in house training.  Kinda' weird that a unit with a primary METL of sniper misions didn't get many slots and another unit with no sniper mission on the METL did... good old Army.  Anyway, I guess now (at least from what I hear around), LRSUs have picked a sniper mission as part of their primary METL... makes sense how modern LRSUs are operating though as opposed to the old Cold War, counter WARSAW PACT doctrine that guided us before.

I have no idea if this will help, I was the head combat pistol and asst sniper instructor at the AMTU at Bragg in 82-84 and we trained snipers for the 82nd. If I remember right most went to the CSC units of the 82nd they then turned into D Co. I was a scout with a leg unit CSC 2/502 101Abn (Asslt) in the early 80's and we had snipers attached. Oh,  and yes it was hell being in a leg unit as a paratrooper.

OK, found you guys just a while ago and could not help but register intro myself and post.

I served with Cpt McManus and Sgt Hutchinson at A co 1/61 road runners. I got there just in enough time to see Sgt. (at the time from what I remember) Hutchinson's combat scroll and watch him ship to the LRSD. I served under CPT. McManus until he went to be the CG assistant. When the Roadrunners went to become 11M I decided that I didn't want to go that route. So, I then went and applied to the D co. 105th MI (LRSD.)

I'm bad on dates but it had to be Summer 90 to Winter 92 that I served the with LRSD and I don't remember us having any Snipers.

That said I'm bad on dates and Typo will be frequent.

I have a undiagnosed memory problem and typos will be frequent.
