I served with with the following units

D Co 105th MI BN LRSD out of Folk Polk from 89-92.

Then with H Co 122 Inf LRSU which then became H co 121st INF LRSU.

I got out in 96 and I was looking for a LRSU Association but the closest I have found is the 75th RRA. Are there any other associations for former LRS members as the 75th only takes LRS units that can trace the lineage back to Vietnam. 105th was created in 1997 and I have no idea when 122nd was originated (It is a national guard unit in Georgia).

Thanks

Quick question.  First off, did you guys have snipers in that detachment out of polk?  I heard there was, but why.  Lrs/lrrps dont shoot people.  we observe and report, or just call fire on em.  Can you confirm/deny this?   And secondly, you state that you were 105th from 89-92, but then you go on to say that the 105th was created in 1997.  Was this a typo?  Im thinkin yes, cuz i remember there bein lrs there before 97.  If you were there, did you know any of the snipers, if there were any?

105th was not created in 1997, he's either had a typo, orrrrrrrr, he's lying!  Ok, lets go down my history that will shed a little light on the existence of LRS in the Army.

Back in 1988, I arrived with four other Airborne qualified privated to Ft. Polk, LA, 5th ID.  11X1P, promissed I'd be in an airborne unit at Polk.  At inprocessing, not a leg was found who could tell us where the Airborne unit was!  There were 3 Infantry Bns in the 5th, and we were going to one of them, 1/61, 3/6, and 4/6 Infantry.

Upon arrival to A co 1/61, mad as hell that the Army has f'd me from the start, I meet SGT Hutchison, Grenada Raider from 1/75, tabbed, etc.  He says that him and another NCO are about to head over to the new LRSU in the Division.  We had no clue what a LRSU was.  6 months later, the flyers began popping up around the Infantry battalions.  They were taking volunteers and would undergo a selection process.  LTC Glopper (Vietnam veteran with a diamond on both shoulders- 5th ID) said he'd hear none of it, no Roadrunner would go to that.  So CPT McManus tried fighting for us, notta.  CPT Mc ended up being the LRS commander after his short stint in A 1/61.

I went on to Korea, then to Carson, where I served in the 4th ID LRS (104th MI Bn) for four years.  And the story continues................

No snipers.  People make up things to make the unit or themselves sound cooler, etc.  5th ID LRS deactivated somewhere around the time all the 3d Corps Divsion LRSs deactivated- 1995.  I was already a year into SL time at Bragg when all my buds arrived to the 82nd or to SFQ.

The motivating factor of keeping score.......1st, 2d, 3d, and dead $%^& last!

Roger! My Bad! Looks like ABNLRS departed the AO some time ago, but just in case he is lurking about reading the threads, maybe he will still get the message. 6Gearss has made 10 posts with no proper intro. Looks like we need to re-inforce the Forum rules.
