"Would we send a president's son even if he wanted to fight, would that be allowed." - redleg155

Would we? We have. Both the son of a serving president and the son of a former president.

Major James Roosevelt participated in the raid on Makin Atoll as the executive officer of the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Evans Carlson. The Marine Corps was leery of Maj. Roosevelt going but FDR reportedly threatened to cancel the raid by executive order if his son wasn't allowed to go in harms way.

Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt Junior went ashore in the lead assault wave at Utah Beach as the assistant division commander of the 4th Infantry Division. When he determined that his unit had landed about a mile off target Roosevelt reportedly said "We'll start the war from right here!"

Not to mention the son-in-law of a President, Charles Robb married Lyndon Johnson's daughter and did a tour in Vietnam as a Marine.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

"History teaches that when you become indifferent and lose the will to fight someone who has the will to fight will take over." COLONEL BULL SIMONS
