They say a picture is worth a Thousand Words!  I guess this sign outside a local paratrooper hangout says it all!

Dreaded red X

I guess someone will have to read it to me.

Now I had to get some clarification on this sign, especially after the now famous "Men of Honor" movie.  It seems that "Squid" has another meaning.  Many military types have taken to riding motorcyles in a rather careless and reckless manner and find themselves mangled and squished on the roadside in squid like little balls at the bottom of ditches, hills, mountain sides or on the side of someones vehicle due to high speed collisions.  These signs at some of the local clubs are "sobering" reminders not to become a "squid."

Remember the slogan coined at the end of the war in NAM...?  Peace with Honor.

One might conclude we are in somewhat of a similar situation today.

It's pretty sobering to consider that road deaths in the US since 1995 range between 41,000 and 43,000 deaths per year.  (http://www.driveandstayalive.com)

Try running that on the news everyday, side by side, with soldier fatalities occuring in Iraq and A-stan and Americans might, just might start to gain a perspective about personal loss.

Every loss of life is a tragety that effects families and loved ones throughout communities all across this globe, and roughly 70% of us die in our cars in this country for every one American soldiers death in combat.

Not to downplay the seriousness of any one of the deaths of US servicemen in any war; but, if the media reported each of those automobile fatalities on TV every night, the country might not be so outraged about the war and might be willing to support our president's Iraq plan. Just a thought.......
