| Found these on the internet.
The 1st Abn Bn, 509th Inf sign after the battalion was activated in March 1963

Distinctive Unit Insignia, 8th Infantry Division units, 1967 (8th Infantry Division booklet, 1967)
"American Parachutists...devils in baggy pants...are less than 100 meters from my outpost line. I can't sleep at night; they pop up from nowhere and we never know when or how they will strike next. Seems like the black-hearted devils are everywhere..." (An entry in a German officer's diary found after the Battle of Anzio)

Mike, I noted in the DUI there was no 8 with These are my credentials within it. That was the Bde HQ crest & a red & blue wing background. I also believe that was the Div Crest, not the patch type 8's shown. That was in late '68. 1& 2/509 had the black & gold colors on the wing background reversed. If I remember right 1st Bn was gold w/ black center & 2d Bn was Black w/ gold center, & both wore the 509 crest & the Zouave badge that said in french "We're resting".
Ein bier, bitte.

C&S, not sure if you were joking but the motto on the Zouave badge translates(loosely) into "Here I am, here I stay".
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.
"History teaches that when you become indifferent and lose the will to fight someone who has the will to fight will take over." COLONEL BULL SIMONS

| Had a great experience today. Gentleman came into the office looking for training area to do a demo of some new equipment. While I was inputting the data into the computer I asked him to write down is contact info. When I finished I looked at what he wrote. He had said that he was a retired SGM and when I looked at the name Carpenter that name rang a bell. I pointed to my 509 GB-Man Decal here at my desk and said I was with 1/509th 70 -72, he said "me too". He was a SFC in Bravo 1/509 same time. Don't run into too many 509ers in this AO. Come to find out we only live @ 8 miles or so from each other. Hopefully we can hook-up a few times in the future. 509trooper I gave him the new PIA web site and this web site too. He said he'd check them out soon. ATW, -=mike=-

| They were GREAT pics, Mike. While I don't know any of the troops, the equipment and uniforms brought back memories of the 60s.
All the way, sir!!!
