U.S. Army Soldiers jump from a CH-47 Chinook helicopter

at McLaney Drop Zone, Fort Lee, Va., Dec. 7, 2006.

Various units participated in the jump as a quarterly training requirement.

"American Parachutists...devils in baggy pants...are less than 100 meters from my outpost line. I can't sleep at night; they pop up from nowhere and we never know when or how they will strike next. Seems like the black-hearted devils are everywhere..."

I jumped there 3  times from a UH-1 back in 96 when I was in Rigger School.  a small DZ w/ close proximity to a Federal Prison and a potato field.  You also have to wear "water wings" when you jump because of being less than one mile from a large body of water.  All and all a great place to be a paratrooper!

Muddy!!!

Doing a jump on an airfield in Ak, we had to wear water wings because it was close to a river. They told us we're jumping B7's (army floaties) that day. I thought we were jumping from a different aircraft.

Always comforting to have a pair of "swimmies" on eh?

I'd love to have worn a rubber duckie innertube just above my reserve. It would have made pre-jump all the more fun.

I seem to have forgotten about wearing water wings for the huey jump back in 1988.....maybe it's because I was worried about the prison right next to the DZ and dropping in on that situation!

LMAO! BLONDE in the yard! That certainly would have been a unique contingency for the corrections officers... one they never would have trained for or expected.
