| 6 decades later, these men get the recognition they deserve http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,262303,00.html

| Why are they being singled out??? What about the thousands of black Infantrymen, Truckers, porters, stevedores etc??? I thing the TA did what all races did doing WWII. THEIR JOB. I don't beleive they should receive anything special for it. Why not recognize the guys of the 555th PIR??? My buck twentys worth.

Gotta disagree with you, Big Al. How many aviators (of any color) had their combat record ? Few, if any.
Plus, they didn't know whether they were going to get shot by the Germans and Italians or by their lighter-skinned fellow Americans.
They earned the recognition.

| Actually Al, the truckers have long received recognition. The "Red Ball Express" that kept Patton charging was black truckers. There was a TV series in the early/mid 70's about them. It would be 20 more years until HBO made "The Tuskeegee Airmen" to honor those fliers. I personally think that because the were as effective as their white counterparts, they've been ignored since acknowledgement in the past would destroy long standing prejudices that some seek to hold on to. Off my soapbox.

| Eh. Our black brothers who were Infantryman faced a helluva lot more combat than the Airmen did. They faced just as much if not more discrimination than the airman did. The only thing I see is they had a more glamours job, flying those red tailed P-51s!!! But hey I judge a man on his character, not his skin colr.

| Agreed, but once again, the infantry is ignored regardless of color. It's my understanding that the Black infantry units had a very limited role in combat mostly because of institutionalized prejudice. Add to that the fact that they were ill led, and they were set up for failure. Another example of this institutionalized prejudice would be the Neisie(sp) units that that were in Europe. Hated by their officer and distrusted by most other soldiers, they had an uphill fight.
